Go to the photos in the photo gallery at the left and choose a photo you want to use as the background. Choose 'Insert' in the menu bar and select 'Photo as background'. Now the selected photo appears in the background. You can adjust the transparency in the 'Format' menu tab. You can also select a photo to use as the background by clicking the photo with the right mouse button and selecting 'Use as background'.
